The Saskatchewan Hockey Association shall award a minimum of eleven (11), $1000.00 Hockey Education Assistance Grants each hockey season. The criteria for applying to for these grants is the following:
8 – Regional (zone) members (player, coach or member of the referee’s division)
1 – Midget AAA registered player
1 – Female registered player
1 – Junior A, B, Junior, or Senior registered player
Each applicant must meet the following criteria:
Must have been registered for three (3) years
Must be a registrant in good standing in the SHA
Must have graduated Grade 12 by June of that year except for:
Junior A, B, C players
Senior players 20 years of age or under as of December 31st of the current season.
Must be going to attend a Saskatchewan based University affiliate College, or Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
Must attend a Saskatchewan institution within (4) years to take advantage of the grant.
Junior A grant recipients must attend a Saskatchewan post-secondary institute within
Four (4) years if application requirement is a graduating Grade 12 student during that year.
One (1) year, if application requirement is as a player 20 years of age or under as of December 31st of the hockey season.
Recipients may only be eligible to receive the grant once.
Each applicant will be required to fill out and return an application form on or before August 31st of the hockey season.
Each application form indicates two (2) methods whereby a person may apply. They can apply in the zone where the player’s home address is and/or the division of hockey they play in. An example is a player whose home address Zone 1 and plays on a Midget AAA team; the player may apply in Zone 1 and also as a Midget AAA player; or the female player may apply in zone 1 and also as a female player.
The grant will be paid upon proof of enrolment. The proof of enrolment will be in the form of receipts from the educational institution the recipient is attending. The payment, which is to be applied to tuition and purchase of textbooks, will be made directly to the applicant.
A committee of three (3) Executive Committee members of the SHA will determine the recipients of the grant. The President of the SHA appoints this committee. The recipient will be announced by Sept 30th of the hockey season.
Craig Hartl Memorial Scholarship (Goalie)
On behalf of Don and Kim Hartl of Lake Lenore, Saskatchewan, I would like to announce an opportunity for Goaltenders within the Province who will be graduating from Grade 12 this year to apply for a $1,000 Scholarship to honour the memory of their son Craig Hartl.
Craig was a young man who grew up in Lake Lenore playing hockey and the position he loved, Goaltender. Craig passed away in January, 2018 and his family wishes to honour his memory and love of a Hockey Goaltender by offering an annual scholarship of $1,000. The criteria for the Scholarship is as follows;
The candidate must have completed their grade 12, and they will be attending – university, college, or a trade school.
They must have been registered in Saskatchewan as a goalie for at least 3 years.
The candidate must be in good standing in the SHA.
The student must be an avid volunteer both in the community and in their school.
Please attach two (2) letters of reference with the application.
The scholarship will be paid out upon proof of enrollment and acceptance of their chosen post-secondary school.
Applicant will be required to fill out and return the application and required documents by March 1 of each year.
The Scholarship recipient will be chosen be the Don, Kim and Cortney Hartl, Craig’s family.

The Saskatchewan Provincial Council of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada has establised a Social Justic Award. The award is intended to enable young women to engage in social justice work. Young women between the ages of 18-35 years will be eligible to receive up to one thoughsand dollars in one year upon application and decision of the committee.
Award Criteria:
Open to young women between the ages of 18-35 years.
Demonstrated involvement in social justice activities.
Recommendation of a pastor or campus minister or equivalent.
The award must be used to finance participation in a reputable social justice activity, either at home or abroad, e.g. Development and Peace, Cuervavaca experience, work in inner city or northern experiences.
Priority will be given to CSL members or relatives of CWL members.
The committee may decide to give the yearly amount to one candidate or divide it among qualified applicants
Academic standing and background will be a consideration but not the determining factor.
Successful candidates will be asked to share their experience with League members.

Video essay: Video submissions will be judged by a panel of industry professionals (50% weighting)
Public voting: Via online voting, maximum one video vote will be allowed per region (5 votes maximum). (25% weighting)

The two selected students will be required to research a global challenge and write a five-page essay under the supervision of their teacher or mentor.
Golf Saskatchewan annually awards a number of scholarships to deserving student candidates who have made major accomplishments in academics, including golf, in Saskatchewan. The scholarships are named for individuals who have made significant contributions to amateur golf in the province.
Golf Saskatchewan also works with Golf Canada to assist young golfers who wish to apply for national scholarships and bursaries through the Golf Canada Foundation.

Our Latest Award Winner…
It is with great pride that 1800wheelchair announces our nineteeth scholarship awardee – Melanie Oakes of Lakeland University. We again received a great response, with hundreds of students submitting essays.
We would also like to take this opportunity to announce our next scholarship. Established in 2009, the 1800wheelchair scholarship fund now bestows two $500 awards each year. In the past, we’ve asked applicants to explore mobility issues on campus, overcoming personal challenges, and much more. To enter the scholarship students must follow the guidelines below:
Participants must meet the following criteria:
Enrolled at an accredited high school, college, or university in Canada
Enrolled at the undergraduate level or your final year of high school
Aged sixteen (16) years or older
Carry a status of “good standing” (i.e. currently enrolled)
Maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 (or equivalent)
Postmarked by May 1, 2018

Scholarship Topic
For our next scholarship, we are going to repeat our visual contest. Please submit a ‘visual poem’, in a style of your choosing, on the theme of overcoming a personal challenge. Limit your ‘visual poem’ to an 8.5in x 11in piece of paper. You can choose to represent words, images, or both. It can abstract or representational. Please include a personal statement that gives us an idea of who you are and how your poem relates to a challenge you’ve faced. The poem and essay (combined) should be between 500 and 1,000 words, but feel free to write a little more or less.

The Paddy O’Rourke Poetry Scholarship was established in 2018 to recognize and encourage young Saskatchewan poets. It is named in honour of Patrick (Paddy) O’Rourke, a teacher, literary editor, mentor and prominent friend of Saskatoon’s and Saskatchewan’s arts community.
This site should give you all the information you need to (a) understand the scholarship criteria and submit an application; and (b) become a valued donor, including the link to the Scholarship’s financial administrator, the Saskatoon Community Foundation.
The Scholarship is coordinated by Saskatchewan’s first Poet Laureate Glen Sorestad as Chair, Sonia Sorestad, and Ray and Debbie Penner.

The Paddy O’Rourke Poetry Scholarship will be awarded annually, at the discretion of the Scholarship judges and administrators. The amount awarded is determined in part by donor support.
The current scholarship is $1,000 CAD.
Please carefully review the application criteria to ensure your submission will be considered. Incomplete applications will be discarded without further consideration or notice.
The successful applicant must meet the following criteria:

Be a Saskatchewan resident completing Grade Twelve in Saskatchewan or one who has graduated from Grade Twelve in Saskatchewan within the past 24 months.
– 2 –
Be accepted into, or plan to attend in the fall of the year of the award, a post-secondary institution and be enrolled in at least one class in the literary arts (e.g. English 101; a creative writing class, etc.) Note: Scholarship funds will be issued upon proof of enrollment to a post-secondary institution as per the above. The post-secondary institution does not have to be in Saskatchewan.

Provide a letter (written by the applicant) indicating reasons why he or she deserves to be awarded the Scholarship. Important factors include participation in writing-related activities (e.g., editor of the school newspaper; involvement in a local library writers’ club; reply letters from publications who have considered your work, regardless of whether or not that work was accepted). Note that the writer’s talent – not financial need – is the principal focus for the Scholarship. The letter must include:
a. Current educational status (e.g., attending Grade Twelve) and educational institution where you are about to or have graduated.
b. Your Full Name
c. Your Address
d. If you are under 18: Your parent or guardian’s contact information such as phone number and, if possible, email address.
e. A statement which reads, “I agree to the terms and conditions of the Paddy O’Rourke Poetry Scholarship, including the right to release the winner’s name and sampling of his or her work to the media and general public. I further confirm that the poetry submitted is entirely the original work of the applicant.”If you are under 18, please have your parent or authorized caregiver sign this statement and print their name and date.

Append a sampling of five to ten pages of the applicant’s poetry. (Note: This does not imply five to ten different poems; long poems that exceed one page are acceptable.) Please do not submit illustrations/images.
