Four awards of $1,500 given each year to children of NUPGE members
Each year, the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) offers four scholarships that reflect its pursuit of equal opportunity for all workers. They are open to the children, grandchildren or foster children of the National Union’s 340,000 members who are starting a post-secondary education. Some scholarships may have additional requirements, as noted below.
The Tommy Douglas Scholarship for $1,500 is open to all students who plan to enter the first year of a Canadian public post-secondary education institution full-time in 2015 – 2016 and who are the children, grandchildren or foster children of a NUPGE member.
It will be awarded for the best 750 – 1,000 word essay on: How Tommy Douglas contributed to making Canada a more just and equitable society.

The Terry Fox Memorial Scholarship for $1,500 is open to all students with disabilities who plan to enter the first year of a Canadian public post-secondary education institution full-time in 2015 – 2016 and who are the children, grandchildren or foster children of a member of the NUPGE.
It will be awarded for the best 750 – 1,000 word essay on: The importance of quality public services in enhancing the quality of life of people with disabilities.

Kin Canada Bursaries, a program of the Hal Rogers Endowment Fund(HREF), awarded 48 deserving students with a $1,000 bursary for their 2013-14 school year. Successful applicants were chosen based on their community and school involvement, knowledge of Kin Canada and financial need.

2015 W. Garfield Weston Foundation Fellowship
This year the project will consist of ten awards to post-secondary education (PSE) students in the eligible
programs, plus five awards for apprentices in the eligible apprenticeship programs.
Selection Criteria:
Demonstrated passion, desire and motivation to build a successful career in the skilled trades
Commitment to maintain a minimum of a 60% grade point average
Willingness to provide mentorship of other students considering or who have entered Skilled
trades training programs

Terry Fox Humanitarian Awards are open to graduating secondary level students and those currently studying towards a first university degree or diploma in a Canadian post-secondary institution. For students in Quebec, you must be entering 2nd year cégep or university.
To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Involvement in voluntary humanitarian work.
- Canadian citizens or landed immigrants.
- Undergraduates studying towards their first university degree or diploma at a Canadian post-secondary institution in Canada.
- Maintain a satisfactory academic standing and continued involvement in voluntary humanitarian and community work.
Students are eligible to receive the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award until they have received their first university degree (for a maximum of four years), provided they have maintained a standard of humanitarian work and personal conduct which, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, justifies the award.

Community Scholarships
The Walmart Canada Community Scholarship Program offers educational grants to graduating high school students who aspire to continue their education at the college or university level. A total of six awards will be given away, two per region: Eastern Canada (Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, P.E.I., and Quebec), Ontario and Western Canada (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon Territory, Northwest Territories and Nunavut).
The Walmart Canada Community Scholarship is an academic award. It applies to tuition and academic fees first and foremost. If these expenses are covered and funds remain from our scholarship, these funds can be applied to books and on-campus room and board. The intent of the Walmart Canada Community Scholarship Program is to pay expenses as designated and outlined by the college.
Associate Scholarships
The Walmart Canada Associate Scholarship Program offers educational grants in the form of scholarships to graduating high school students who work for Walmart or who are dependents of Walmart associates who aspire to continue their education at the college or university level.

Lou Puim Memorial Scholarship
In his 30-year career with Woolco and Walmart Canada, Lou Puim made his way from stock rooms, to sales floors, to merchandising, operations, and ultimately to the position of vice president of marketing. At each stage, he strived to learn more, to seek out new experiences and to create a career – even pursuing a university marketing degree shortly after joining the company straight out of high school. Lou lead the Walmart marketing team from 1994-2006.
The Lou Puim Memorial Scholarship was established in 2006 to assist students pursuing a post-secondary education in a marketing-related discipline and to extend Lou’s legacy in the industry.
