July 8-12 Girls Exploring Trades and Technology (GETT) camps, ages 12-15 – girls
WHEN: July 22-26, 2019
TIME: 9am – 4pm, except on Friday: 9am – 1pm

COST: $150
A week long fun filled day camp experience for Grade 6, 7 & 8 girls (ages 12-15). GETT camp lets girls show off their skills as they design and build an upscale project, a table from pallets from July 8-12. During the week the girls will get a chance to try out different tools and learn how to use them safely and properly. Through meeting women in a variety of trades and technology careers the girls also get to learn about the wide variety of career options that are available to them.
If cost is a barrier we do have seats that are being provided by our Camp Sponsor – SaskPower and in addition, we do have a financial assistance program.
July 8-12 Mind Over Metal (MOM) camp, Grades 9-12
“The Mind Over Metal Welding Camps are one of the initiatives of CWB Welding Foundation that was created to address the welding skilled trade shortage in Canada. They engage youth across Canada in new experiences by introducing them to the welding trade in a fun safe environment, while presenting welding as a rewarding career option, and encouraging participants to pursue welding as a career choice.
Breakfast and Lunch provided.

The Schools of Construction and Transportation have received some funding dollars to help under-represented individuals access training in the trades. They are targeting unemployed, underemployed, legally entitled to work in Canada, underserved demographic (disabled, women, newcomers, indigenous). – Creating Opportunities for Entry into the Trades (COET)-
They will be doing a combination of intake formats over the next 3 years. The first intake started this March and April, where approximately 24 clients are taking a 22-week carpentry applied certificate (March 11 – August 9, and includes a 6-week work-placement), and 21-week training in bricklaying (April – September). Both of these are taking place in Saskatoon. The number of hours they attend will count toward apprenticeship. Instruction will be offered face-to-face but the content (including handouts) will be online so participants will be able to review online.
They are offering these programs tuition free to these participants (seat fee may apply). The tuition for these programs, including books, is $8,000 – $10,000. Students attending the Applied Certificate programming, Intro to the Trades and Tour the Trades will need to come prepared with the required safety footwear.
Olds College is offering Veterinary Medicine for Teens on August 20-23. Students between the
ages of 13-16 will have hands-on experiences and learn about the various roles and
responsibilities of Veterinary Medical Receptionists, Veterinary Technical Assistants, Animal Health
Technologists and Veterinarians. Students will also learn about basic animal first aid, assessments,

WorkSafe Saskatchewan, for a limited time (no end date currently) is providing residence of Saskatchewan with FREE online health and safety education certification. This is a great opportunity to include in your resume when applying for a job. Courses include Bullying in the Workplace, Hazard Identification, Mental Health, Violence in the Workplace, and WHMIS. Course descriptions are available. Once you go through the registration, and declare yourself as a Saskatchewan resident, your total cost will be zero dollars. You can then begin taking the courses you have selected.
Online Courses
WorkSafe offers many training courses online. This means you can work on them at your own pace and when it’s convenient for you. This also makes it easier to have more of your staff trained in WHMIS, Inspections and Investigations.
NOTE: Successfully completing both the Inspections and Investigations online courses provides the equivalent of the Occupational Health and Safety Level 2 Committee training.
