How to apply for the TD Scholarship for Community Leadership
Each year it seems like the cost of post-secondary education keeps getting more expensive. You’ve saved some money, but you still don’t think it’ll be enough. Maybe you didn’t spend your summers focused on making the most money, instead you created change. Then, there’s good news. The TD Scholarships for Community Leadership may be what you’re looking for.
What is it?
The TD Scholarship for Community Leadership awards students up to $70,000 for college or university (up to $10,000 for tuition per year, $7,500 a year for living expenses) for 4 years. It’s open to students across Canada who:
Have demonstrated community leadership
Are in final year of high school or CEGEP (in Quebec)
Have a minimum overall grade average of 75% in their most recently completed school year

If this is something you’re excited about, then you should look out for applications starting in September. But here is the general process:
1. Write a 600-word essay (three copies) describing your community leadership experience.
Why you got involved
How your involvement shows initiative and innovation
The ways your efforts have strengthened others
How long you have been involved
What you think the long-term impact will be
How your community has affected you
2. Tell us about the other great things you’re doing. Include a brief description of the range of your other community activities with:
A letter of recommendation from your school
Two letters of support from community groups
Your academic transcript
3. If you’re really trying to impress, you also have the option of including:
A 250-word essay (three copies) describing your family and personal life, for example your family’s employment or economic situation
A 250-word essay about your life experiences if you have taken a year or more away from high school or CEGEP
Grade 12 students who are planning on entering university in 2018 can now apply for the Loran Award at the link below. Please note that our application deadline is October 17, 2017 for all sponsored applications. For all direct pool applicant the deadline is October 24, 2018.
To assist you in getting started, Chinook School Division created a 2018-2019 scholarship booklet for last years students. The dates might have changed but it is a good starting point.
July 8-12 Girls Exploring Trades and Technology (GETT) camps, ages 12-15 – girls
WHEN: July 22-26, 2019
TIME: 9am – 4pm, except on Friday: 9am – 1pm
WHERE: Saskatchewan Polytechnic Moose Jaw Campus
COST: $150
A week long fun filled day camp experience for Grade 6, 7 & 8 girls (ages 12-15). GETT camp lets girls show off their skills as they design and build an upscale project, a table from pallets from July 8-12. During the week the girls will get a chance to try out different tools and learn how to use them safely and properly. Through meeting women in a variety of trades and technology careers the girls also get to learn about the wide variety of career options that are available to them. If cost is a barrier we do have seats that are being provided by our Camp Sponsor – SaskPower and in addition, we do have a financial assistance program.
July 8-12 Mind Over Metal (MOM) camp, Grades 9-12
“The Mind Over Metal Welding Camps are one of the initiatives of CWB Welding Foundation that was created to address the welding skilled trade shortage in Canada. They engage youth across Canada in new experiences by introducing them to the welding trade in a fun safe environment, while presenting welding as a rewarding career option, and encouraging participants to pursue welding as a career choice.
Breakfast and Lunch provided.

Tour of the Trades – Creating Opportunities for Entry into the Trades (COET)
July 29-Aug 2 – Tour of the Trades – Automotive Service Technician, ages 16 and older, co-ed – focused on the 4 equity groups (women, First Nation, New Comer and disabilities)

The Schools of Construction and Transportation have received some funding dollars to help under-represented individuals access training in the trades. They are targeting unemployed, underemployed, legally entitled to work in Canada, underserved demographic (disabled, women, newcomers, indigenous). – Creating Opportunities for Entry into the Trades (COET)-
They will be doing a combination of intake formats over the next 3 years. The first intake started this March and April, where approximately 24 clients are taking a 22-week carpentry applied certificate (March 11 – August 9, and includes a 6-week work-placement), and 21-week training in bricklaying (April – September). Both of these are taking place in Saskatoon. The number of hours they attend will count toward apprenticeship. Instruction will be offered face-to-face but the content (including handouts) will be online so participants will be able to review online.
They are offering these programs tuition free to these participants (seat fee may apply). The tuition for these programs, including books, is $8,000 – $10,000. Students attending the Applied Certificate programming, Intro to the Trades and Tour the Trades will need to come prepared with the required safety footwear.
Olds College is offering Veterinary Medicine for Teens on August 20-23. Students between the
ages of 13-16 will have hands-on experiences and learn about the various roles and
responsibilities of Veterinary Medical Receptionists, Veterinary Technical Assistants, Animal Health
Technologists and Veterinarians. Students will also learn about basic animal first aid, assessments,

Purpose:
To assist a Vanier student in successful the pursuit of athletics and academics.
Eligibility:
The student must be actively involved in his/her schools’ Physical Education, and Extra-Curricular program.
The student must have at least a 75% average (Christian Ethics 30, English A and B 30, Social Studies 30, highest marks in any three 30 level subjects – then divide by 7).
The recipient should exhibit strong leadership and sportsmanship qualities as well as being a positive role model in his/her school and/or community.
Have been involved in at least two Vanier Sports programs throughout his/her years.
Have taken at least one credit Physical Education class (20 or 30)
Financial need
Enrolled at Vanier for at minimum of two years.
Selection:
Preference may be given to a student who will continue to participate in sports at the post-secondary or amateur level, as a player, official or coach.

Deadline: June 30 (note: scholarships may be deferred for a year if the student is a year long Rotary Exchange student or is deferring post-secondary attendance to work due to financial need.
